Phase I Registration Coming Soon!

PHASE I Registration:  Opens Monday, April 1-Friday, April 26, 4:00 p.m.

With Registration just around the corner, here are some answers to some of the most Frequently Asked Questions.  If there are other questions you have, please comment or drop me a line so we can make sure everyone is comfortable with the process:

OVERLOADS
We just don't do them.  The intent of Wait List is to remove the need for overloads.  Instead, we constantly monitor the number of seats in all of our CHBE core courses throughout registration.  We have to incrementally increase seats in each of our sections to keep them as even as possible. We cannot promise you that you will be able to get a certain section at a certain time.  We can tell you however, that if you need a core course to move on, 99.99% of the time there will eventually be an open seat.  This is true for every course except....

CHBE 4200/4210 and 4400  (U.O. and Process Control)  Unit Ops and Process Control is a whole other story.  The seats in these courses are very limited and we have to carefully monitor these courses to make sure that those students who need these classes and are graduating this, their last semester, get a seat. If you are unable to get a seat, please add yourself to the wait list for the appropriate lab section. If you have submitted your graduation application for Summer 2013, we will know you need the class.and prioritize your name on the wait list.  If you anticipate graduation in Fall 2013, please email me so I am aware for prioritization.

PERMITS
The only classes that ask for permits in CHBE are research (2698, 2699, 4698 and 4699),  CHBE 2100 (for non-majors) and  CHBE 4573, 4574, and some CHBE 4803 Special Topics courses.
  • Research:  You can obtain a form from  the front desk in the main CHBE office on the first floor atrium of FORD ES&T. Once the form is completed and signed by your supervising professor, you return the permit to the advising office and a permit is entered. You must then sign up for the course in OSCAR BUT BE CAREFUL!! The number of hours defaults to 1:  you must change this when signing up for the course.  (Typically you will change this to 3--discuss with your supervising professor if you are unsure.)
  • CHBE 2100: There is never any reason for a CHBE student to use this. This is for non-CHBE majors wanting to take the course. As long as you have the pre-reqs you are good to go.
  • CHBE 4573, 4574, and 4803 Special Topics: You must ask for a permit through OSCAR to take this course.  Please see the notes entered in the Long Title in schedule search to identify the requirements for a permit to be granted.  Priority is given to CHBE students during Phase I.  Remember that just because you receive the permit,  it does not guarantee you a seat!!
