OVERLOADS
We just don't do them. There's really no need to ask. What we do
instead is constantly monitor the number of seats in all of our CHBE
core courses throughout registration. We have to incrementally increase
seats in each of our sections to keep them as even as possible. We
cannot promise you that you will be able to get a certain section at a
certain time. We can tell you however, that if you need a core course
to move on, 99.99% of the time there will eventually be an open seat.
This is true for every course except....
CHBE 4200 and 4400 (U.O. and Process Control) Unit Ops and
Process control is a whole other story. The seats in these courses are
very limited and we have to carefully monitor these courses to make sure
that those students who need these classes and are graduating this,
their last semester, get a seat. Be on the lookout for an email from Mr
Hardin during Phase II registration. He will make a call for anyone
who
absolutely needs the course to graduate to respond to the email to let
us know. We
then review the transcripts of all those who responded and do what we
can to find seats for those who absolutely need it.
PERMITS
The only classes that ask for permits in CHBE are research and CHBE 4763 and 4764.
Research
You must have a form signed by the professor you are currently doing
research for. You can obtain this from the front desk in the main CHBE
office on the first floor atrium of FORD ES&T. Once the form is
signed, you return the permit to the advising office and a permit is
entered. You will then sign up for the course in OSCAR BUT BE CAREFUL!!
The number of hours defaults to 1, and you must change this when
signing up for the course. (Typically you will change this to 3)
CHBE 4763 and 4764
You must ask for a permit through OSCAR to take this course. You must
have a minimum 2.8 GPA cumulative to take the course. Priority is given
to CHBE students during Phase I. Remember that just because you
receive the permit, it does not guarantee you a seat!!
