Another question that comes up quite often is how many courses can I take on a pass/fail basis and which courses can I use?
The answer is fairly simple. The ONLY courses you can ever take pass/fail are your undesignated humanities, social science, and free electives. What do we mean by undesignated? It means any course that is required but not specifically named.
In your humanities for instance, you must take the following:
ENG 1101
ENG 1102
Those are specifically named requirements so they must be taken for letter grade. You can possibly take the other 6 hours of undesignated humanities on a pass/fail basis. The same goes for your social science and free electives.
So how many total hours can I take pass/fail?
This is a little trickier and all depends on how many hours you came to Tech with toward your program of study.
If you came in as a Freshman then you can use a total of 9 hours pass/fail toward your program.
If you transferred in from another university, the total number of hours you can use is at maximum 9, but is variable.
You can find the breakdown on the actual pass/fail form here:
Registrar Pass Fail Regulations
If there ever is any question, simply take the course for letter grade, then you will not have any issues!
