Manufacturing Development Engineer

This position is located within DuPont’s Tralee Park Manufacturing site in Newark, Delaware near U of DE.  Tralee Park supports the DuPont Performance Polymers business by manufacturing Kalrez® Perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) parts, used as specialty seals for high tech industries.  This role requires detailed knowledge of discrete rubber parts manufacturing including experience with equipment such as roll mills, extruders, molding presses and ovens used to mix, form, cure and inspect rubber parts. The manufacturing process also utilizes various process control systems including SAP and Wonderware to produce, monitor, control, and document process conditions and results.


The Manufacturing Technology Development Engineer is accountable to the Technology Leader. 

The accountabilities of the Manufacturing Technology Development Engineer include:
·         Works with a Product Development Chemist, commercial team, and development technicians to introduce new compounds (i.e. scale up new formulations). 
·         Develops operating conditions / final scale up for new compounds.   Documents the new processes and provides training to the operations team.   
·         Interacts with the commercial and manufacturing team to resolve quality and delivery concerns during scale up of new compounds.
·         Develops improved / new products / processes and start-up new equipment. Design experiments to be run in the lab or on the plant floor. 
·         Leads improvements in quality, productivity, safety, reliability, and capacity, either through technology, process, equipment and IT system upgrades, engaging work teams and the appropriate tools and technologies. (ie. RCFA, Six Sigma, Lean, etc.)  
·         Leads and implements small capital projects.

Required education, skills and experiences:
·         Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred), Rubber Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering degree,  or B. S. degree in Chemistry
·         Process development or plant support experience.  At least 2+ years in rubber parts processing (preferably injection or compression molding).  Note: the “tire” industry is not considered applicable experience.
·         Demonstrated strong technical capability, particularly in problem solving/analytical ability.
·         Effective verbal and written communication skills.
·         Effective interpersonal skills to lead and mentor teams and to work with others who have diverse skills, education and backgrounds.
·         Ability to work well in a team operating in a DuPont Production Systems (DPS) environment.
·         Understands the equipment and it's affect on the quality and performance of final parts.
·         Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment

Preferred:
·         Six Sigma certification – Lean Six Sigma preferred
·         Experience with designed experimentation and statistics.

Manufacturing Technology Production Engineer

This position is located within DuPont’s Tralee Park Manufacturing site in Newark, Delaware.   Tralee Park manufactures Kalrez® Perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) parts.  The Manufacturing Technology Engineer is accountable to the Technology Leader; and is accountable as a member of an operations cell manufacturing team for achieving specific Responsible Care, production, quality, cost, or improved workplace goals; works with production, maintenance, and technical teams to define and resolve problems within the manufacturing facility.

The Manufacturing Technology Engineer provides input to the capital budget plan; reviews all new or modified procedures for technical adequacy; assists with training programs as necessary; assists in safety, quality, environmental and unusual incident investigations; supports team empowerment.

The Manufacturing Technology Engineer interacts with the commercial team to resolve Customer Complaints/Failures.  Develops improved process instrumentation and control strategies, process safety, yields, capacity and uptime performance.  Serves a first response to plan technical issues and assists in trouble shooting process or equipment issues. 

The job duties of the Manufacturing Technology Production Engineer include:
·         Leads improvements in quality, productivity, safety, reliability, and capacity, either through technology, process, equipment and IT system upgrades, utilizing empowered work teams and the appropriate tools and technologies. (ie. RCFA, Six Sigma, Lean, etc.)  
·         Helping technicians solve manufacturing problems with o-ring molded shapes and developing operating conditions / final scale up for new compounds.   
·         Area resource in use and application of engineering/technical practices and technologies.
·         Creation of technical systems and processes to improve ability of the plant to meet its cost, quality and production goals.  
·         Be responsible for understanding the equipment and it's affect on the quality and performance of final parts. 
·         Leads and implements small capital projects.

Required specific skills needed in engineer and degree:
·         Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Rubber Engineering Technology (example Ferris State University), Mechanical Engineering degree.
·         Plant support experience or process development experience.  Knowledge of principles and practical applications associated with mfg operations, maintenance and engineering. At least 2+ years in rubber parts processing (preferably injection or compression molding).  The tire industry is not applicable experience.
·         Demonstrated knowledge of discrete rubber parts manufacturing including equipment such as roll mills, extruders, molding presses and ovens used to mix, form, cure and inspect rubber parts.
·         Knowledge of asset productivity, tools and measurement processes aimed at improving production and capital effectiveness.  Strong understanding of operational discipline.
·         Computer knowledge of process control systems including SAP and Wonderware to produce, monitor, control, and document process conditions and results.
·         Demonstrated strong technical capability, particularly in problem solving/analytical ability.
·         Effective verbal and written communication skills.
·         Effective interpersonal skills, such as ability to lead and mentor teams and work with others with diverse skills, education and backgrounds.
·         The ability to work in a team empowered environment. 
·         Desire to work in a fast paced customer focused environment. 

Preferred:
·         Green Belt or lean Belt certification; Black Belt preferred
