One of the more confusing parts of any major's curriculum can be classes that are allowed to be taken pass/fail. There are rules within each major itself as well as rules set forth by the institute! It is very important to become familiar with these rules, so as not to get caught in a situation in which you have to retake a course.
Could you imagine having to take PCHEM II twice? Yuck!
The ONLY courses you are allowed to take pass/fail in CHBE are your undesignated humanities, social sciences, and free electives. So what do we mean by undesignated? Any of those three categories in which a course is NOT specifically outlined. In other words, ONLY the 6 extra hours of humanities, the 6 extra hours of social sciences, or any free electives.
You are also limited to the total number of hours that you can take on a pass/fail basis. These are outlined on the Registrar's sight here:
Pass Fail Rules
Starting Spring 2011 the registrar implemented a new rule stating you cannot change from letter grade to pass/fail or vice versa after registration has closed without the signature of an Academic Advisor. You can find that form here:
Grade Mode Change Form
As always, please post questions here or let the advising office know if you have any issues.
